Perform painting functions for the Physical Plant department.
This is an essential staff position that may be required to report to work when the university is closed or during inclement weather when a state-of-emergency has been declared.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- High School diploma or GED
Experience
- Three years' experience as a painter
- Requires general knowledge of painting.
- Painting and customer service skills
- Customer service and pleasant attitude
- Perform limited administrative functions
- Limited computer skills
- Independence and self-directed
- Problem-solving and resourcefulness
- Drywall patch and paint
- Must adhere to all safety standards and work practices set by the Physical Plant.
- Must be able to lift 55 pounds (lbs).
- No fear of heights or tight places.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Patch holes in drywall and general wall touch-up.
- Prime and finish coat paint drywall walls, metal door/window frames and other items as needed.
- Successfully complete OSHA safety training to use lifts to reach high areas, use PPE (personal protection equipment) and other training courses.
- Patch and hang vinyl wall coverings.
- Estimate square feet and lineal feet to prepare correct paint and vinyl wall covering orders.
- Properly maintain paint and supply inventory.
- Develop a campus-wide maintenance painting plan which prioritizes needs, so the university has the best possible appearance.
- Maintain paint colors on documents and develop a campus-wide paint swatch book.
- Respond to painting work order requests.
- Forward any other maintenance needs to the Physical Plant office; be another set of eyes around campus so we can better take care of our campus.
- Assist with maintenance duties as time allows.
- Serves on on-call emergency rotation
- Work with other departments on projects such as event set-ups, snow removal or emergency service.
