The General Maintenance Mechanic at Waubonsee Community College plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the college campus locations: Sugar Grove, Aurora Downtown, Aurora Fox Valley and Plano. This position encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance. The Facilities Operations Specialist collaborates with various departments to maintain a safe and functional environment for staff, students, and faculty. This position reports to the Plant Operations Manager.
Carpentry: Proficiency in carpentry, wall construction, and problem-solving skills to address construction and rehabilitation needs.
This includes wall coverings, window treatments, drywall, and furniture movement.
Painting and Finishes: Expertise in paint application, surface preparation, and sealing techniques, including caulking. Ensures a high-quality finish on surfaces.
General Maintenance: Performs equipment repairs, safety inspections, and participates in building safety inspections. May assist with snow removal and various repair tasks.
Preferred Candidates also have experience with:
Access Control and Locking Systems: Assists in the installation and troubleshooting of access control systems, including card readers and locking mechanisms.
Plumbing: Conducts minor leak inspections and repairs, along with the repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures.
Electrical: Responsible for changing bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets, and wall covers. Proficiency in using a multi-meter.
HVAC: Willingly assists Maintenance Staff with HVAC tasks if necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of related work experience with Key Responsibilities.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Strong communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work independently.
Physical ability to lift heavy loads, up to 75 lbs., and engage in climbing, standing, crawling, and walking.
Familiarity with computer programs, including Microsoft Office, is a plus.
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
