The Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is hiring a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor for the West Maintenance team. This position will lead a team of 26 treatment plant and offsite mechanical and engine mechanic staff, oversee, oversee the maintenance of the West Section facilities, and be an active member of the O&M Leadership team. You will also gain opportunities for growth through trainings, conferences hosted by leaders in the industry, and working across functional groups within the Division.

About The Role: The responsibilities of this classification include supervising and directing the overall mechanical maintenance teams and program(s) for the West Point wastewater treatment plant and West Section Offsite facilities. Maintenance programs include but are not limited to the repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance of industrial equipment, electrical and instrumentation control systems. Incumbents supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, engineering, and technical support positions. The role will assist the treatment plant manager in the development, implementation, and revision of short- and long-term goals and objectives for the plant's operation and maintenance.

About The Team: The Mechanical Maintenance team for West Operations and Maintenance unit includes maintenance mechanics, engine mechanics, offsite maintenance mechanics. The primary function of this role is to lead, direct, and supervise this dynamic and skilled team of mechanical professionals. As a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor within the Operations and Maintenance team you are expected to be a "People Leader"; to lead and develop your team to align with the County and WTD leaderships goals, expectations, standards, and initiatives. Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Support operations and maintenance staff in procurement activities, providing SME guidance.

  • Supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, engineering, and technical support positions assigned to the maintenance program. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, conducting performance evaluations, training, and recommending disciplinary actions.

  • Supervise the review and coordination of preventative and maintenance practices including life cycle analysis of equipment and forecasting short- and long-term equipment needs, equipment replacement and repairs.

  • Develop and implement the work unit's operating and capital budgets; make recommendations on budget expenditures and monitor expenditures to ensure that budget is within established guidelines.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal maintenance business policies and procedures for all equipment and systems at the treatment plant.

  • Represent the section and/or division on capital replacement, expansion, and new facility projects.

  • Act as the maintenance representative on capital improvement projects to provide input and direction on what the maintenance requirements will be for the designated project. Provide technical expertise on maintenance related issues that arise during the development, implementation, and start-up of assigned projects.

  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of systems and/or processes to support the maintenance program at the treatment plant.

  • Participate as a member of the section or division management team and act as the section or division management representative on internal and external committees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • 3-6 years of experience in maintenance and repair of equipment used in wastewater treatment facilities
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in a skilled trade or craft occupation, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical discipline such as engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in life cycle analysis of industrial equipment, electrical and/or instrumentation systems or processes.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in maintenance techniques and practices in an industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, HVAC systems, SCADA systems, and instrumentation
  • Preventive maintenance programs and asset management systems.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff.
  • Ability to develop and support in house training for assigned staff.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Communicate effectively and prepare reports.
  • Ensure employee safety compliance within established guidelines and regulations.

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring (Highly Desired):

  • Prior or current wastewater maintenance supervisor experience or 3 years of industrial maintenance lead responsibilities
  • Demonstrable experience with Capital Project teams and other work groups, consultants, or contractors.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and how to utilize extrapolated data in a meaningful way.
  • Practical and progressive experience in an industrial maintenance setting, craft, or trade
  • Managing budgets and Capital project support
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling, coordination and prioritization.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong mechanical, machining, welding background and experience

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199 and Jameson Offsite Operations and Maintenance Facility.

  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. The position requires the ability to work all flexible hours and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions.

  • Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117 - Wastewater Supervisors.

  • NOTE: Salary

reflects $1.00 per hour contribution to the Western Conference of

Teamsters Pension Trust (WCTPT) Fund

  • Special Duty Assignment (SDA) Duration: This recruitment aims to fill an SDA position with an anticipated duration up to three (3) years. If the position is filled by a King County employee who has successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the role as a Special Duty Assignment.
  • Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, climb in and out of tanks using ladders, and work around noxious odors and high noise levels. Must be able to physically move in and around county worksites such as treatment plants, regulator stations, pump stations to observe work and participate in work and project planning. Must be able drive unencumbered to different locations throughout the service area as required. A pre-employment physical, review of driving record and reference checks will be conducted prior to any final job offer.
