We are looking for a Trimmer (Welder) to join our team! This position will fabricate parts required for the final stages of steel boiler construction in accordance with ASME code requirements. Fabricated parts will be mounted or attached to the boiler according to the reports and blueprints provided. The ideal candidate will be able to weld, read blueprints, and have experience with various measuring tools.

This is a full-time, union-hourly position located in Lancaster, PA. Hours are Monday-Friday, 6 AM - 2:30 PM; Saturdays as needed (maximum of two required 6 AM - 12 PM).

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepares front and rear covers of boilers and fabricates parts to make complete sub-assembly for mounting to all types of boilers. Uses automatic stud welder, affixes studs to covers, installs door lugs and front and rear doors as required
  • Prepares material to make breeching connections for all types of boilers
  • Prepares material, fabricate parts for all access doors, transition pieces and other special sub-assemblies which may be required for all types of boilers
  • Using burning torch, welding machine, and various hand tools required to fabricate above sub-assemblies
  • Assembles all parts necessary to make bases and transports bases to designated area
  • Secures jam rings for front and back of boiler
  • Shoot studs (retaining) on center punched marks around rings
  • Fits front and back rings so that they are square and aligned with boiler shell. After fitting, clamps and tack welds rings
  • Removes clamps and completely seam welds rings to boiler shell
  • Grinds off tack welds
  • Fits rear door to rings and boiler shell
  • Sets and welds hinges to boiler shell and doors
  • Fits in lifting ring and peephole and welds completely
  • Determines diameter of stack and secures material of proper size
  • Installs front and rear smoke box on all boilers as required
  • Lays out opening for stack on top of boiler shell and burns out
  • Fits stack and welds to shell
  • Repeats similar operations, except for stack, in order to complete front section
  • Fabricates skids and bases for boilers by measuring, fitting and welding
  • Performs related work as directed commensurate with this or lesser rates labor grade

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • MUST be able to pass ASME 2G stick, 2G MIG, and 3G stick weld tests
  • Ability to read blueprints and/or diagrams
  • Experience with measuring tools

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
