Manufacturing Process Engineering Technician

As a Manufacturing/Process Engineering Technician at Schluter, you will leverage a strong foundation in technical expertise, Lean and quality management practices, cross-cultural communication, and collaborative leadership to support and drive complex engineering projects. In this highly impactful role, you will serve as a key link between engineering and production to optimize manufacturing operations, improve product quality, drive continuous improvement, and support global collaborationparticularly with Spanish-speaking teams and suppliers. This role requires fluency in Spanish and the ability to travel 15%25% of the year, both domestically and internationally. This position serves as a crucial link between engineering and production, contributing to the overall success of Schluter's manufacturing initiatives.
Process Design, Development, Validation, Optimization, and Improvement
- Lead efforts to optimize manufacturing processes and workflows.
- Analyze existing processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Design and execute validation protocols for new processes or process changes to ensure that they meet quality and regulatory requirements.
Product Design for Manufacturability
- Support the introduction of new products or processes into manufacturing.
- Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth transition and implementation, including equipment setup, process validation, and training of production personnel.
- Create detailed CAD models/drawings, perform complex calculations, prototyping, and contribute to the design process by proposing innovative solutions and improvements.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Conduct advanced tests and evaluations of mechanical systems or components to assess performance, reliability, and safety.
- Design and set up test rigs, analyze test data using statistical methods, and make recommendations based on their findings.
Continuous Improvement
- Actively contribute in continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
- Utilize data analysis, root cause analysis, and problem-solving techniques to identify opportunities for improvement and drive implementation of solutions.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement changes.
Training and Support
- Provide training and mentorship to team members and production personnel (English and Spanish).
- Share knowledge and best practices, facilitate skill development, and support the growth and advancement of team members within the organization.
- Provide technical support to engineers and other team members (English and Spanish).
- May serve as subject matter experts in specific manufacturing processes and provide guidance, training, and mentorship to less experienced colleagues.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and collaborate effectively with engineers, managers, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- May lead technical meetings, facilitate communication among team members, and represent their team in cross-functional discussions.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Prioritize safety within the manufacturing environment.
- Promote adherence to safety protocols and procedures, conduct safety inspections, and proactively identify and address potential safety hazards to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Conduct regular safety audits and assessments, and aid in implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents or incidents.
- Ensure that mechanical systems and components comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- May be responsible for interpreting and applying standards to ensure compliance throughout the design, testing, and manufacturing processes.
Leadership
- May lead or contribute to manufacturing-related projects, including process upgrades, equipment installations, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Coordinate project activities, and ensure timely completion within budgetary constraints.
- Take on task management responsibilities, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
15 20 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on process and/or manufacturing/electrical engineering technology.
Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) required.
Experience collaborating with or working for companies in Spanish-speaking countries (Mexico, Spain, Central/South America).
Proven expertise in Lean manufacturing principles and quality management systems (e.g., TPS, Six Sigma, SPC).
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment troubleshooting, CAD/CAM, and data-driven decision making.
Proficiency in root cause analysis tools: A3, 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone, etc.
Ability to travel 1525% domestically and internationally to support projects, training, audits, and equipment installations.
Excellent interpersonal, technical, and cross-cultural communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and project task coordination skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools.
Strong technical skills, including knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
Hands-on experience with troubleshooting equipment and conducting root cause analysis.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, quality control methods, and Lean manufacturing principles.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and quality standards applicable to manufacturing operations
Strong technical skills with a foundation/experience in mechanical systems, heat transfer and thermodynamics, fluid power systems, electrical systems (electrical circuits, instrumentation, PLC, etc.), manufacturing processes, and automation concepts.
Proper use of metrology equipment (specifically calipers, micrometers, optical comparator a plus)
Strong Problem solving and root cause decision making experience required
- Utilizes structured rapid problem-solving techniques including A3, 8D, DMAIC, fishbone, etc to efficiently navigate through thorough and rapid root-cause understandings
- Experience in using data to educate and align organizational decisions.
- Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
- Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems
A hands-on self-starter with strong collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Associate degree or technical certification in engineering, manufacturing, or related field.
