Southern Oregon Sanitation is known for the high level of service it provides to our customers. Part of this performance is rooted in the support systems we provide to our front-line employees. Our Class A Tracker-Trailer Driver is a vital part of the team that enables our Transfer Station team achieve excellence by managing the daily removal of materials out of our Transfer Stations.

The core purpose of the Transfer Station Tractor/Trailer Driver is to provide transport for trailers from SOS Transfer Stations in Grants Pass and Kerby to the Dry Creek Landfill.

Individuals who are self-starters, safety focused, and bring team mindedness to their work are best suited for long term success in this position.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform and complete assigned route(s) in a safe and timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly with Transfer Station staff through radio and written communications.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections and drivers log.
  • Keep equipment clean and report areas of concern to supervisor and mechanics.
  • Adhere to landfill agreements, company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Possible exposure to hazardous noise levels, chemicals, fumes, and machinery
  • Maneuver in and out of equipment on a frequent basis
  • Climb into vehicles and raised surface including ascending/descending ladders with 3 pt contact
  • Lift Loads up to 50 lbs repetitively
  • Manipulate a two-handed tarping system
  • Bending and lifting to remove debris with the use of shovels, rakes and other maintenance tools
  • Must be able to see issues related to vehicle safety and performance, as well as printed information sheets

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a vehicle navigating through commercial and residential areas under a variety of adverse weather conditions.
  • Duties place driver on 2 lane roads while pulling a 53 trailer daily

Reporting Relationship

  • This position reports to the Facilities Manager/Transfer Station Lead Operator
  • This position does not have any direct reports.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a non-exempt, full time position with potential weekends, holidays and overtime.

Requirements

Competencies

  • Must be able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and/or passenger vehicle(s)
  • Must be able to pull, maneuver and back 53' trailer in tight/confined spaces
  • Know and follow traffic laws and vehicle/equipment handling guidelines
  • Comfortable driving in difficult weather conditions
  • Safety oriented

  • Must exercise good judgement in decisions

Education, Experience, and Eligibility Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class A CDL License
  • Current Medical Card
  • Minimum of 1 year experience Commercial Driving Experience with at least 48ft trailers, vans or comparable combinations
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Must be insurable by Company insurance policy (CDL Medical Examiner Certificate may be required)
  • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
  • Knowledge of Josephine, Jackson, and Douglas Counties
  • Customer service experience
