The Site Manager is responsible for managing daily yard operationsfrom material intake and inventory control to equipment maintenance and staffingwhile also leading marketing efforts to build vendor relationships, increase scrap procurement, and drive sales growth.
Responsibilities of Site Manager
- Oversee daily yard operations: receiving, sorting, grading, storage, and shipment of scrap materials
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of approximately 2050 employees, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety protocols
- Manage logistics including weighbridge operations and flow coordination with outbound transportation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations; conduct audits, safety training, and incident documentation
- Monitor yard performance metricsthroughput, scrap volumes, equipment utilizationand generate regular reports
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement strategies to boost productivity and reduce waste
- Maintain strong vendor and customer relationships; negotiate pricing and service agreements
- Coordinate labor scheduling, performance reviews, HR documentation, and disciplinary actions when necessary
Required Qualifications of Site Manager:
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelors degree in business, marketing, supply chain, or similar field preferred
- At least 5 years supervisory experience in scrapyard, recycling, heavy industrial, or logistics operations
- Experience in marketing or business developmentincluding vendor outreach, pricing strategy, or campaign execution
- Familiarity with scrap types and metal grading, weighbridge systems, ERP or inventory management tools
- Strong leadership, negotiation, analytical thinking, and communication skills
- Certifications such as OSHA 30hour or equipment operation license preferred

- Lead morning meeting to review safety items and daily goals
- Supervise inbound and outbound material handling; monitor equipment use
- Meet with vendors and customers for contract and pricing discussions
- Update metrics and analyze sales/inventory data to drive process improvements
