King County Parks is hiring two (2) Parks Maintenance Operations Supervisor II to lead teams and oversee park maintenance operations. If you have a knack for balancing leadership, a passion for public spaces, and team-focused values, then this might be your opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
About the Role:
As a Supervisor II in our Operations Section, you'll play a vital role in keeping King County's parks, trails, and natural areas thriving for the community and future generations.
This dynamic role offers variety, challenge, and purpose-requiring strong prioritization skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering excellent service in all seasons. You'll support the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of day-to-day operations for your assigned Park District or work group, which may include everything from natural habitats to active park spaces to regional trail systems, maintained year-round in all seasons.
The Supervisor II oversees staff training, communicates project priorities, and upholds Parks division values while managing administrative tasks.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
Lead and inspire your team - Supervise, guide, and support daily work activities for your team while modeling the values and priorities of the Operations Section.
Be hands-on and solutions-oriented - Assist with difficult or unusual problems, ensure timely completion of maintenance and projects and be available after hours as needed to support your team and fulfill section-wide responsibilities.
Hire and onboard talent - Assist with screening, interviewing, and hiring employees, including developing field tests for candidates, making recommendations to hiring authorities.
Grow and support your staff -Conduct performance and probationary evaluations to foster employee growth and development. Provide regular feedback, address performance issues through verbal and written reprimands, recommend additional disciplinary actions when necessary, and maintain accurate personnel records and documentation.
Serve the public - Respond to and investigate complaints and inquiries from the public, providing clear, accurate information to interested parties and resolving issues in timely and professional manner.
Champion safety - Ensure crews follow proper safety precautions and comply with construction, OSHA/WISHA, and environmental regulations, codes and specifications.
Manage resources - Assist in budget preparation and track and monitor expenditures. Authorize purchases and code invoices accurately.
Train and develop teams - Assess training needs for your team, research resources, and develop and implement an annual training program to equip new employees. Provide hands-on instruction in proper maintenance procedures and safe use of tools and equipment, leading by example.
Collaborate across the Division - Participate in meetings with supervisors, management staff, and other teams across the division to coordinate projects, schedules, and timelines.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
At least three(3) years of experience in park maintenance operations that includes working with a range of staff including skilled, semi-skilled, seasonal, and professional team members (e.g., park maintenance workers, capital project managers, event coordinators).
Several years of experience consistently leading and supervising crews or work units, including addressing safety concerns, guiding team performance, and managing challenging situations with professionalism and care in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating with staff at all levels to establish and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills(oral and written), with the ability to engage effectively with employees, peers, supervisors, and customers.
Working knowledge of preventive maintenance programs for park buildings, park assets, natural lands, and general facilities, including development and implementation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and asset management software like Lucity to support project planning and communication
Experience in resource planning, including cost estimation for park and trail construction/maintenance and procuring appropriate equipment and supplies for work crews.

Required Licenses:
Candidates must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License prior to appointment.
It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:
- Knowledge of King County Parks' facilities, policies and procedures.
- Experience coordinating and supporting large-scale community events
- Pacific Northwest Resource Management School Certification.
- Knowledge or experience in LEAN principles and continuous process improvement activities.
Physical Requirements:
This job requires the ability to travel to and work within internal and external work areas within the Parks system. Those work areas expose the selected individual to uneven slopes, surfaces, grades, and terrain in varying weather conditions.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Work Location:This position will report to either Redmond shop facility (6046 W Lake Sammamish Pkwy NE, Redmond, WA 98052) or Kent shop facility (24810 148th Ave SE
- Kent, WA 98042) as these are the current openings. The role will have frequent site visits to various Parks district locations within King County including the Central Maintenance Facility in Renton.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, generally Monday through Friday, 6am- 2:30pm. The schedule may include weekends or special events. The Supervisor II position will participate in Duty Officer rotations of being on-call for 2-weeks at a time a few times a year.
- This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by PROTEC L17 union.
