Job Description
Position Overview
As a CAD Designer, you will be responsible for creating detailed shop drawings and production-ready CAD models for commercial cabinet systems used in office buildings, medical facilities, retail spaces, and institutional environments. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, estimators, and production teams to ensure that all designs meet customer specifications, industry standards, and internal manufacturing capabilities. Microvellum experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Create accurate and detailed CAD drawings and 3D models for commercial cabinetry, casework, and millwork projects using AutoCAD or similar software.
Interpret architectural plans and specifications to develop shop drawings and submittal packages.
Prepare cut lists, materials schedules, and CNC-ready files for production.
Coordinate with project managers and engineers to resolve design issues and incorporate field measurements.
Collaborate with the production team to ensure feasibility of designs and address manufacturability concerns.
Maintain organized drawing files and documentation for each project.
Provide technical support during fabrication and installation phases as needed.
Qualifications
Associate's degree or equivalent technical training in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field.
2+ years of experience in a CAD drafting role within commercial cabinetry, architectural millwork, or related industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, or Inventor is a plus.
Strong understanding of construction documents, joinery techniques, and casework standards (AWI/QCP familiarity a plus).
Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints and shop drawings.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
