The Benton County Public Works Engineering Department is looking for a County Surveyor to join our Team!

JOB SUMMARY

The County Surveyor is responsible for all surveying services with regard to the determination of property ownership between private and public lands, boundary surveys, right of way surveys, restoration of government corners, construction surveys, and surveying related projects for Public Works and other county departments. Responsible for the filing of subdivision plats, partition plats and boundary surveys for compliance with Oregon Revised Statues Chapters 92 and 209 that are submitted by Professional Land Surveyors. Negotiate property acquisitions, resolve conflicts, and provide technical assistance to county departments. Responsible for exercising work supervision and control (as defined by Oregon Revised Statutes, Chapter 672.002,) and performing all the other duties of a Professional Land Surveyor in executing and completing complex surveying projects. Work as team leader, member, coordinator and mentor within the Surveying and Engineering workgroup. Provide leadership for the Surveying Program.

  • $93,928.54 -$135,641.56

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following minimum qualifications are REQUIRED for this position:

  • Bachelors Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field; AND
  • 6 years of directly related experience.

An equivalent combination of closely related education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon Driver's License within 30 days of hire date.
  • Professional Land Surveyor License from the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying, or ability to obtain by comity/reciprocity of certification from another state within six months of hire.
  • This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of:
  • Federal and state statutes, rules, ordinances, standards, and codes governing land surveys, land development, road rights, and legal status.
  • Principles, methods, and procedures for land surveys and plats.
  • Land status research methods, theories, concepts, methodology, and techniques.
  • Skills in:
  • Interpreting and applying technical standards and procedures.
  • Reading and interpreting project plans, maps, diagrams, legal descriptions, and technical documents.
  • Operating, calibrating, and maintaining surveying equipment and electronic field data recording equipment.
  • Consolidating field notes and survey data into specialized software for base maps and drawings.
  • Using a personal computer with standard and specialized engineering and surveying software.
  • Ability to:
  • Demonstrate courteous behavior when interacting with the public and County staff.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing with an appropriate level of technical terminology for the situation.
