The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of engineering for large divisional projects as well as multi-divisional projects, including, detail fabrication drawings for internal use. The information produced must represent the customer's design intent while incorporating valuable, efficient engineering, which will result in excellent customer satisfaction, excellent product quality, and maximum financial benefits for idX.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and control the integration and completion of engineering projects for large-sized divisional projects, including multi-divisional collaboration.
  • Coordinate activities related to technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Produce drawing specifications for customer review based on prescribed designs using corporate standards.
  • Review product designs for compliance with idX engineering standards, customer requirements, and other related specifications.
  • Coordinate all drawings and specifications with the assigned Project Management team.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient production details and division manufacturing standards are incorporated into engineering documents.
  • Review all machining requirements with machine programming and production personnel.
  • Define production scope in drawings, including buyout items, wood, metal, and plastics.
  • Work with procurement to ensure timely ordering of buyout/long delivery items.
  • Review all material requirements for ERP entry.
  • Maintain, track, and update all revisions to the Methods of Manufacturing (MoM).
  • Assist Project Management in defining materials required for long lead and fast turn items.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Prioritize cost savings throughout all processes, offering value engineering suggestions while ensuring quality is not compromised.
  • Work with 2nd and 3rd tier engineering personnel to understand proper engineering processes and evaluate their designs for production efficiency, risk assessment, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and follow estimates for material and labor costs to ensure planned margins are met or improved.
  • Find, source, and develop information and details for efficient production resulting in excellent quality.
  • Create material requirement projections and work with purchasing to procure materials within schedule.
  • Support senior engineers on large-sized projects.
  • Support the divisional team with plant layout projects.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience as a Project Engineer in a wood and/or metal manufacturing environment, store fixture industry preferred
  • Proven ability to manage and successfully execute an engineering program which requires multi-divisional coordination
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques in the wood and/or metal industries
  • Knowledge of multi-materials including wood, metal, plastics, glass, etc.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, science, and engineering technology
  • Proficiency working with 3D solid modeling is required, preferably Autodesk Inventor
  • Working understanding of ERP software, Epicor 9 or 10 is preferred
  • Exposure to other Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Vault
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to express oneself professionally utilizing both verbal and written communications
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively
  • Ability to produce under pressure of timelines and customer demands
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently to work on multiple projects simultaneously ensuring all key dates are met while maintaining the highest level of quality
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required
