JOB FUNCTION:
Perform welding and fabricating activities, which entails various types of welds and layouts, including some installation and maintenance of piping systems.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Layout, fit, and weld components to assemble structural forms, such as machine frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building parts according to blueprints.
- Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.
- Plan sequence of installation to ensure effective communication between all phases of installation.
- Perform work based on preventive maintenance schedules.
- Assist outside contractors with knowledge of facilities, operations, and utilities.
- Perform other job-related duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within one year, an ASME certification for pressure vessels.
- Must possess the ability to read and understand blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to apply knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal, machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
- Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
- A willingness to work rotational shift if necessary, including days, evenings, and nights, as well as, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
EXPERIENCE:
Four years experience in the welding and/or pipefitting trade.
EDUCATION:
High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
SECURITY:
Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility. Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.
