This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.As part of the hardworking New Shepard Avionics team, you will craft, develop, and verify high-performance avionics' hardware for various flight vehicles. You will be integrated with our rocket program and technical leads to drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test and production release of on-vehicle launch, flight and power management components and sub-systems. Your responsibilities will encompass electronic requirements, architecture concepts, detailed design, development, and test. In addition, you will follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, release, and participate in flight support activities.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 7+ proven years experience in the design of complex hardware
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the design, verification, qualification, and production phases of the electronic product lifecycle
Our New Shepard Avionics Control and Command team is responsible for vehicle electronic systems: flight computers, navigation, sensors, controls, mission support, and more. In addition to the general qualifications above, we are looking for dedicated individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Background deploying and supporting sophisticated circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products
- Experience working with engineers and process specialist in developing and qualifying avionic systems.
- An understanding of high-speed digital, analog, and/or mixed-signal circuit system architecture and troubleshooting.
- Battery-based power systems, including power management, power switching, charging, and battery safety
- Computer command and I/O control for sophisticated industrial systems or vehicles
- Experience with Data Acquisition Systems and familiarity with a variety of sensor technologies
- Proficiency with scripted and/or compiled languages such as Python
- Familiarity with Altium and/or Orcad tools
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related subject areas.
- 8+ years proven experience in design, development, integration, test, and operation of
- Proven experience specifying and crafting high reliability safety-critical electronics; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards
- Background with launch vehicle hardware development, integration, and test
- Experience developing embedded software or firmware for 32-bit microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs
- Proficiency with scripted and/or compiled languages such as Python and .C/C++
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $126,898.00-$177,656.85Other site ranges may differ

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
