It is the mission of the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) to protect life and property from the hazards of fire or explosions, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disable individuals, and promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings. As such, the Plan Review Section reviews construction documents for all new construction, renovations, and otherwise altered commercial buildings in Louisiana for compliance with the state adopted laws, rules and codes.
Professional architects and engineers are employed to provide for peer-to-peer consultation with our architect and engineer clients, and to provide quality assistance to business owners who have not retained professional services for their projects. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice architecture.

- Acts as a consultant for the state as it relates to the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire, smoke, explosion, and panic.
- Evaluates handicapped accessibility requirements as promulgated by the state legislature.
- Evaluates "State Energy Code".
- Reviews construction documents for general compliance with the State Building Code.
- Directs the modification of the design of structures, watercraft, and movables to ensure that the facilities achieve and can maintain a minimum acceptable level of life safety and accessibility.
- Analyzes and calculates occupant loads of individual buildings based on square footage to verify the adequacy of fire protection systems.
- Indirectly supervises, consults, advises, and trains lower-level architects on issues of design and architecture.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment
Career Progression: This position may be filled at the Architect 2 or 3 level, depending on the selected applicant's experience.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The bi-weekly rates for each title are as follows:
Architect 2 (TS312) - $1,923.20
Architect 3 (TS314) - $2,201.60
