Reports To: Director of Buildings and Grounds
Duration: 12 Months
Purpose Statement
The job of Building Foreman is done for the purpose/s of supervising maintenance and repair services and activities; overseeing assigned personnel; providing information to others; and scheduling work assignments within established timeframes and standards.
Essential Functions
- Communicates with building administrators and outside organizations for the purpose of coordinating activities, resolving issues and conflicts and exchanging information.
- Implements assigned activities and/or projects for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
- Inspects new construction, repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, daily maintenance and supplies for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently; specifications are within established guidelines; and approving inspection reports.
- Maintains maintenance equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Oversees workload of department for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.
- Procures maintenance equipment and materials for the purpose of recommending and assisting in the selection of supplies and equipment to be stocked in the warehouse for use by maintenance
- Supervises department functions including planning/ scheduling/ coordinating activities, training, advising, consulting, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
- Supervises work and workplace safety standards for the purpose of ensuring compliance regulatory requirements and district preventive maintenance processes.
- Trains maintenance workers for the purpose of ensuring proper building maintenance techniques, injury prevention and legal compliance.
Other Functions
- Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out their administrative
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
