Job Description

Join a leading civil contractor as a Project Superintendent for the Highway 1 Widening Project in Surrey, currently 35% complete. This pivotal role involves overseeing drainage, earthworks, excavation, and shoring, while managing 34 self-performed crews of approximately 30 personnel. The position requires significant civil construction experience, strong leadership, and the ability to drive project execution while maintaining safety, quality, and budget alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site safety planning and execution, including hazard assessments and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Ensure all personnel and subcontractors complete orientation and maintain safe, clean work sites.
  • Investigate incidents and enforce equipment maintenance standards.
  • Review contract scope, drawings, and specifications with the estimator and PM.
  • Coordinate crews, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain and update a 3-week look-ahead schedule.
  • Ensure permits and approvals are secured and schedules are met.
  • Track and update project costs using internal systems.
  • Coordinate billing and ensure timely invoice submission.
  • Monitor job cost codes and address variances proactively.
  • Supervise foremen and daily site activities.
  • Ensure quality standards are met and deficiencies addressed.
  • Report issues through formal quality control processes.
  • Mentor and guide team members.
  • Ensure task-specific training is completed before execution.
  • Schedule and manage equipment needs.
  • Ensure operators follow maintenance protocols and report breakdowns promptly.
  • Review Daily Quantity Reports and Extra Work Orders.
  • Maintain a detailed project diary and integrate data into internal systems within 48 hours.
Essential Skills
  • 10+ years of civil construction experience in roadbuilding, drainage, and earthworks.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Site Supervisor with proven leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of MoTI, MMCD, and municipal standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and contract documents.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, and construction management platforms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Public Works Course (BCIT) or equivalent.
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering.
  • ASTTBC registration.
  • Construction Management certification.
  • Excellent scheduling and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and customer-driven.
  • Self-motivated and able to work within a team environment.
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $72.00/hr.
