To serve as a working supervisor responsible for the daily maintenance of baseball and softball diamonds at all BCPS high and middle school sites. This includes all aspects of ball diamond maintenance including grooming, weeding, grading and maintaining safe playing conditions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience: Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. Three years of experience in grounds maintenance and three years of progressively responsible experience in land measurement, layout and ball diamond maintenance equipment operation. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a valid commercial, class A Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required. (The class A license may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.) Possession of a valid Federal Motor Carrier Medical Certification (DOT Physical Card) is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of grounds maintenance, construction, and repair. Knowledge of the operation and care of tools and equipment used in grounds operations. Knowledge of the care and planting of grass, shrubs, trees, and plants. Knowledge of the operation of commercial vehicles. Skill in performing manual, semi-skilled, and skilled labor in the maintenance and repair of school and office grounds, athletic fields, and related facilities. Skill in cutting grass using commercial front cut mowers, push mowers, and other equipment. Skill experience in land measurement, layout equipment operation, ball diamond maintenance equipment operation. Skill in the operation of commercial vehicles. Ability to lead, coordinate, and oversee the work of a grounds crew. Ability to maintain records. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to use PC based programs including Outlook email, UKG payroll, Asset Essential Work Orders system, Word and Excel. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work of this class entails the performance of heavy physical labor. Work requires frequent walking, standing, crawling, climbing, kneeling, lifting and carrying moderate to heavy objects. Duties require travel to sites throughout the county and require the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Work is performed in an outside environment and includes exposure to adverse weather conditions. SALARY: Grade 7 on the AFSCME pay scale. Hourly rates range from $21.98 to $33.19. Determines the proper configuration of baseball and softball diamonds based upon field and backstop size. Supervises the set-up and operation of ball diamond maintenance equipment including, but not limited to loaders, sod cutters, Sand Pro, drag, and Ventrac tractors. Checks the work of crew for accuracy and quality. Supervises as well as performs the above duties. May perform other duties as necessary, such as concrete, asphalt, tree work, grounds maintenance, construction, sign installation, line marking, fencing, etc. Participates and directs snow removal activities as required. Shovels and removes snow from sidewalks, parking lots, and grounds. Operates a snowplow and other light and heavy-duty equipment. May be required to assist Baltimore County Highways with snow and ice removal on public and residential streets Performs other duties as assigned.
