A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer (Civil / Roadway)
As a Project Engineer, the things you design will get built! You'll use your civil engineering knowledge to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop construction documents and details, engineering estimates, project specifications, and concept plans, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
Work Schedule for a Project Engineer (Civil / Roadway)
This full-time Engineer position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week with the option to work from home up to two days a week. Our Philadelphia team is a collaborative mix of staff that include civil and transportation engineers and planners. We have a diverse portfolio of multimodal transportation projects throughout Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Collaboration, fun, flexibility, and exceptional quality work are just a few of the characteristics that define us.
Youll be joining a dynamic and growing team in an exciting market and location. Whether its advancing the safety goals of local jurisdictions, reconstructing roadways and intersections to achieve Visio Zero goals, developing construction details to support design guidelines, or preparing final Plans, Specifications, or Estimates for construction, Toole Design is shaping this areas future.
The Philadelphia office of Toole Design is conveniently located in Center City and easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit with access to the MFL, BSL, PATCO, numerous bus routes, and several Indego stations all within two blocks.
We are targeting a salary range of $103,000 to $115,000 for this position.

RequirementsQualifications of a Project Engineer (Civil / Roadway):
- A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
- A Professional Engineering (PE) license (in the Mid-Atlantic states a plus)
- 5+ years of experience developing construction documents with a preference for experience with any of the following agencies: City of Philadelphia, PennDOT, DelDOT, NJDOT
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus and specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation Inroads, MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience developing construction documents, cost estimates and specifications
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft office applications
