Job Responsibilities
Serves as the Assistant Resident Construction Engineer (ARCE), assisting the Resident Construction Engineer (RCE) with major assignments. Plans and supervises work of engineering personnel and inspection in all phases of highway and bridge construction projects. Conducts and reviews sampling and field tests on all projects. Ensures compliance with plans and specifications for both state and federal aid projects. Maintains a high level of quality project management. Prepares daily diaries, monthly construction estimates, and Final plans on construction projects. Performs computer work as necessary. Reviews reports, estimates, and Final plans produced by subordinates. Assists in the coordinating of all work performed by utility companies for relocation of water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, fiber optic communications, cable television, etc. Maintains utility diaries on complex projects and coordinates utility relocation work with contractor and project plans. Meets with the general public, contractor personnel, utility company representatives, and city / county officials as necessary while representing the Department. Assists with the completion of project closeout activities for all construction projects within the unit. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
