Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to hand load waste, junk and trash into packers from thoroughfares.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Cuts grass and perform other grounds keeping functions.
Performs custodial duties.
Operates trucks and other motor vehicles.
Operates small equipment and power tools.
Loads junk and trash, white goods, tree limbs, bagged leaves, dirt, etc. from streets, alleys and vacant lots/structures by hand into packers.
Operates rear-end loader compacting levels.
Cuts up and trims downed trees and limbs.
Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of packers.
Assists driver in vehicle maneuvering and operations.
Rides on back of packer and loads junk/trash by hand and tips garbage.
Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Must pass a pre-employment physical agility test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs heavy work that involves constantly lifting, shoveling, and carrying 35 to 50 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to: - Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. - Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. - Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. - Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. - Traffic; Moving machinery.
