Principal UX Architect - Remote US
The Principal UX Architect will be the senior design leader responsible for shaping the user experience vision for Ambry Genetics’ suite of digital products, enabling healthcare providers, patients, and internal teams to efficiently and intuitively interact with genomic testing and data services. This role blends strategic UX leadership with hands-on product design, guiding solutions from concept through production deployment.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise SaaS, workflow-heavy business applications, and data-rich scientific platforms, with the ability to unify the experience across multiple products—including provider portals, patient-facing platforms, real-time order tracking applications, and specialized scientific data management tools.
Essential Functions
- Establish and maintain a cohesive UX strategy, design system, and visual language for a multi-application ecosystem serving both external customers and internal teams
- Champion human-centered design principles and accessibility best practices
- Partner with leadership to ensure UX aligns with business goals, regulatory requirements, and scientific workflows
- Lead UX for high-impact applications across multiple domains, including:
- Provider and patient portals for test ordering, results delivery, and account management
- Internal and client-facing tools for managing and interpreting complex variant and genomic data
- Translate complex, data-intensive workflows into clear, efficient, and consistent interfaces
- Use modern design tools (Figma, Balsamiq) to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI
- Incorporate advanced capabilities such as intelligent search, workflow automation, and interactive data visualizations
- Conduct foundational and iterative research with healthcare providers, patients, and internal operational staff
- Run usability testing to identify pain points and validate solutions
- Leverage data and feedback to continuously optimize workflows and interfaces
- Partner with engineering leads to ensure design feasibility and fidelity through development
- Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, and QA to integrate UX into all phases of the development lifecycle
- Facilitate design workshops to align stakeholders on vision and execution
- Implement scalable design processes to increase early UX involvement in roadmap planning
- Develop reusable design patterns and components for speed, consistency, and maintainability
- Mentor other designers and foster a culture of design excellence and innovation

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of UX/UI design experience, with 3+ years in a principal or lead-level role
- Proven success designing complex business- and consumer-facing applications with measurable business and user impact
- Strong portfolio showcasing concept-to-delivery leadership, design system development, and workflow problem-solving
- Proficiency in Figma, Balsamiq, or similar tools
- Ability to simplify and standardize complex workflows without losing necessary depth
- Strategic vision combined with hands-on execution capability
- Strong collaboration skills across scientific, technical, and business teams
- Proactive in identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities for innovation
Preferred
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries
- Background in designing data-intensive platforms and multi-audience portals
- Familiarity with AI-powered features and front-end development principles
- Academic or professional background in a scientific discipline
