Senior Architectural Designer (Freelance - Part-Time or Full-Time) Employer: Los Angeles, CA, US Location: Fri, Aug 22 '25 Posted on: $80 - $200hourly Pay: Senior Architectural Designer (Freelance - Part-Time or Full-Time) Location: Los Angeles, CA (Fabrication local; remote/hybrid design work possible) Engagement: Freelance, Part-Time or Full-Time Project Duration: September 2025 - August 2026 About the Role: AENARA is a multidisciplinary design studio devoted to advancing technologies supporting human exploration and habitation beyond Earth. With a specific focus on construction technologies, AENARA supports the development of new research in architectural robotics, systems supporting crews in Earth-independent environments, and in space architecture. AENARA is seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Designer to lead the design and detailing of a high-profile, large-scale exhibition piece to be fabricated in Los Angeles and shipped to multiple international destinations. This role requires a hybrid skill set bridging architecture, industrial design, fabrication technologies, and exhibition design. The ideal candidate has deep experience designing and coordinating complex, highly detailed built workespecially within creative, art-driven, or non-traditional environments. Key Responsibilities: Develop and refine architectural design concepts for a large-scale exhibition structure or installation. Translate schematic-level designs into detailed construction and fabrication drawings. Design custom components, joinery, and assembly systems suited to large-scale fabrication, transport, and reinstallation. Coordinate with fabricators, engineers, vendors, and logistics partners to ensure precision, feasibility, and timely execution. Specify materials, hardware and finishes suitable for repeatable international installation. Coordinate with structural engineers and a broader consultant team Support prototyping and iteration using CAD/CAM workflows and digital fabrication tools. Maintain clear documentation throughout project evolution. Required Qualifications: 5-10 years of experience in architectural design, exhibition design, industrial design, or related fields. Demonstrated experience with architectural detailing for large-scale artworks, furniture, exhibitions, or specialty hardware systems. Proficiency with digital fabrication workflows, including: 3D printing, CNC milling, CAD/CAM design (Rhino, Grasshopper, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar), Injection molding or other advanced prototyping methods Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials. Excellent documentation skills with a track record of delivering high-quality drawing sets and technical documentation. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or Engineering. Experience managing fabrication for projects that are shipped and installed internationally. Familiarity with structural coordination, code compliance, and fabrication logistics. Additional Notes: Must be available for coordination with a Los Angeles-based fabrication team. Travel not required, but availability during fabrication processes is expected.
