Diesel Mechanic Job Description This position involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy construction equipment and on-highway trucks in a safe and effective manner to minimize downtime. Responsibilities Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures, using appropriate tools and equipment for tasks. Perform diagnostic tasks to properly source parts and accurately repair heavy equipment and vehicles, including diesel trucks, trailers, ready mix trucks, rollers, pavers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, etc. Clean, lubricate, and conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools, as needed. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts. Troubleshoot and rewire electrical systems. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications. Order and maintain the inventory of parts for service and repairs. Complete all necessary paperwork, including work orders, parts requests, time cards, logs, and pre-trip/post-trip inspections. Make service calls and roadside repairs as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment Work at an outside asphalt facility, performing maintenance on heavy equipment. 2nd shift hours are from 3:30 PM to 11 PM, with the potential for extended hours. Work 45-55 hours a week and participate in a rotating night on-call shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
