Job Description

The Physical Substation Designer/Engineer will utilize their expertise in AutoCAD Electrical and P4A to support the design and development of high-voltage substation projects. This position emphasizes the physical layout, equipment specification, and integration of protection and control systems, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of substations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physical design packages for substations, including general arrangements, grounding, conduit, cable, and equipment layouts.
  • Create and revise detailed drawings using AutoCAD Electrical, including wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bill of materials.
  • Apply P4A tools to support protection and automation integration, including relay logic and configuration.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to ensure cohesive and compliant designs.
  • Specify and select substation equipment such as breakers, transformers, disconnect switches, and buswork.
  • Support field installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of physical systems and control wiring.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC) and client requirements.
  • Participate in site visits, design reviews, and project meetings.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in electrical design and physical design.
  • Experience with substation design and power delivery.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and P4A.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AS or BS Degree in technical discipline or a related field.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
