Job Overview:

The Building Engineer is responsible for directly managing and maintaining automated and mechanical systems as well as performing general building and facility maintenance and repairs. This position develops and executes strategic and capital planning, as well as day-to-day building operations.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

System Oversight & Management

  • Manages, monitors, and optimizes all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and security systems.
  • Ensures all systems and documentation are maintained in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Performs property and building system inspections. Executes repairs and preventative maintenance; maintains all records and documentation within CMMS.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting

  • Develops long-term maintenance and lifecycle plans for all major building systems.
  • Forecasts the expected lifespan of systems and components to support accurate budgeting for repairs, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Monitors, identifies, and implements opportunities for operational efficiency and cost savings.
  • Builds and executes building strategic plan and capital improvement requests.
  • Supports managing operational building budgets.

Vendor & Project Management

  • Acts as the subject matter expert when engaging with vendors and planning capital improvements.
  • Oversees vendor work, validates diagnostics, and ensures quality standards are met.
  • Leads RFP processes, scope development, and vendor evaluations for system-related projects. Executes capital facility improvements.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Partners with internal stakeholders to understand operational needs and build effective building system strategies.
  • Provides clear, timely updates and recommendations to leadership on system health, risks, budget impacts, and improvement opportunities.
  • Delivers high-quality customer service.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years of experience in building engineering, facilities management, or related technical discipline with a focus on facility systems.
  • Knowledge of Building Automated Systems (BAS).
  • Experience working within a Computer Managed Maintenance System (CMMS) for work orders and recordkeeping.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, building codes, and compliance standards.
  • Exceptional project management, planning, and implementation skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve a variety of building systems.
  • Excellent vendor negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred: Professional engineering license (PE) or Facilities Management Professional (FMP) certificate.

Pay Equity:

$110,000 - $125,000

This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule and is dependent upon experience, qualifications and competencies.
