Job Summary: Project Team Member who supports Self Perform Concrete layout, staking and formwork verification and general Project layout and quality control verification / compliance as requested. For Estimating Services include quantity take off, planning and layout preparation, constructability review, quality assurance development and scope coordination. Support Quality Assurance & Quality Control Engineering Services include Project Set Up and Hand off with outline of Quality Assurance Plan and Project Quality Control Program Set Up, formwork design planning and layout, Lift Drawing, embed and sleeve Coordination. Perform routine field inspections during construction to assist the field concrete team with execution of the QA/QC Program established. Responsible for always operating in the best interest of Shaw Construction & The Project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Surveyor:
- Review and understand Design Drawings, Specifications, Scope Narratives to develop project estimates at every level of documentation from concept, schematic design, design development and construction documents
- Perform quantity take off analysis and review quantities for validation as it relates to estimate deliverables
- Perform Constructability review of the design documents and identify key action items and/or questions and provide recommendations to improve the project outcome
- Support Project Coordination to coordinate with Concrete Lift Drawings and Formwork design planning as needed. Coordinate with key trades including Geotech, civil, steel, framing, masonry etc.
- Collaborate design planning with Shaw BIM Department and Shaw Framing Panel Design Department as needed
- Collaborate design planning with Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors and Trade Partners as needed
- Perform calculating points and loading Trimble Stations, set control using AutoCad, coordinate embed, hold-down and penetration layout
- Identifying key items from the contract documents and applicable building codes to support the Concrete QA/QC project program
- Proficient knowledge with concrete and framing scopes of work, methods and techniques
- The ability to coordinate concrete and building layout to better establish field dimensions for Concrete and Framing Operations
- Address and document any quality issues promptly and provide documentation to allow the Operations team to implement corrective actions
- Communicate and document effectively with all members of the project including project managers, project engineers, subcontractors, inspectors and all Shaw project team members
- Support Concrete, Framing & Main Project Operations teams with RFI coordination and design / layout solution recommendations
- Train and mentor Shaw team members, concrete & framing crew members if needed
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS.
- Utilize CAD to set control for building survey
- Perform daily downloads of data collector files
- Collect and code data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, wetlands, other types of surveys.
- Wide range of experience in topographic/boundary survey and construction layout.
- Familiarity with operation of survey instruments including electronic total station, auto and digital levels, GPS equipment, robotics, 3D laser scanner, and data collectors.
- Knowledge of surveying principles and practices; engineering design and construction practices.
- Large project survey including commercial high rise, campus style apartments, senior living, retail and infrastructure projects a plus.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/GeoPAK, and Trimble Access and Business Center software a plus.
- Must possess a valid drivers license, and have a clean driving record.
- Prepare field notes, sketches, and photos.
- Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
- Perform initial control, secondary control, and construction layout with field crews as necessary.
- Support Project QA/QC Planning including inspection check lists and reporting
- Utilize Project documentation including Submittals / Shop Drawings & Formwork Design Coordination Drawings, Shoring Design Drawings and Lift Plans to support the QA/QC Project Planning
- Perform other duties and take on other responsibilities as needed for project specific scope requirements
Other Duties:
- Attend and participate in company trainings / superintendent meetings / retreats
- Assist with developing and maintaining Shaw internal / subcontractor relationships.
- Promote, Educate and Utilize self-perform department divisions including yard functions framing panel design & fabrication / equipment / tools, logistics, framing, survey & BIM.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree in land surveying, civil engineering is preferred
- Associate degree in surveying is minimum requirement
- 5 years plus experience in surveying
- GPS Experience is a plus
- State Licensure, Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) and/or Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) a plus
Skills Required:
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the general construction practices and techniques, construction document reading, construction means, methods and materials, understanding of current building codes.
- Experience and knowledge of concrete systems, formwork, shoring etc.
- Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures.
- Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs, Procore/Autodesk, Navisworks, BIM360, Bluebeam, AutoCad, Trimble, Tekla, OST.
- Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
Compensation:
- Pay Type: Salary (exempt)
- Pay Range: $80,000 to $110,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
- Other Compensation: Bonus commensurate with individual performance, company performance, and experience.
