Performs intermediate skilled work repairing, maintaining and occasionally operating a variety of landfill, construction, automotive, and specialized equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under direct supervision.

The hiring range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $31.26/hour based on experience
The full salary range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $39.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development

  • Repairs, maintains, and occasionally operates heavy landfill equipment;

  • Performs maintenance on both gasoline and diesel powered equipment;

  • Installs, disassembles, cleans, repairs, replaces parts, reassembles, and tests a variety of drive train equipment;

  • Performs major and minor motor tune up, inserts and adjusts carburetors and lights;

  • Overhauls gasoline and diesel engines;

  • Performs all mechanical duties on gasoline and diesel engines and equipment;

  • Installs and adjusts new brake linings;

  • Replaces parts or entire electrical systems, replaces bulbs and fuses;

  • Changes and repairs tires;

  • Welds, cuts, and manufactures special tools parts if not commercially available;

  • Operates refuse trucks and landfill equipment as required;

  • Assists with snow and ice control as needed;

  • Complies with safety programs, guidelines and procedures;

  • Performs inventory of parts;

  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of landfill equipment, trucks, construction, and maintenance equipment; knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices; skill in the use and operations of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work; ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken parts; ability to keep records of repairs and service operations and to make reports; ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; ability to read and understand equipment service manuals; ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices; ability to maintain effective relationships with others.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized technical training in gasoline and diesel engine repair, and 1 to 3 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and power driven equipment; experience with operating welding equipment and cutting torches.
