Position Summary:
The Construction Field Operations Manager oversees all field operations for construction projects funded by or contracted with Naval Station Great Lakes. This role ensures that all field activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with contract specifications, federal regulations, and company standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing field operations on federal construction projects, including experience with USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, VA, or other federal entities.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily field operations on multiple job sites to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence
Assist in management of subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
Provide weekly accurate project progress reporting to Senior CONS East Leadership
Attend all weekly project meetings with DAWSON Project Management, NAVFAC, and stakeholders
Manage and coordinate field staff including superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and laborers
Implement and enforce compliance with federal construction standards, including EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and project-specific safety protocols
Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules and cost control measures
Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to meet project milestones
Serve as the primary field liaison with federal representatives, inspectors, and client stakeholders
Ensure proper documentation and reporting of daily field activities, inspections, and issues
Conduct regular site visits and audits to evaluate performance and compliance
Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring field personnel
Support quality control efforts and ensure deliverables meet federal contract requirements
Lead by example in promoting safety culture and continuous improvement across all projects
Fill in as onsite supervision if need be.
Assist with Review, Creation, and Implementation of Pre/Post Submittals, Plans, and Closeout Documentation.
Lead and foster the environment of Government/DAWSON Partnering.
Promote the DAWSON Values of Kuleana, Ohana, and Aloha'
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management (preferred, however; years' experience will be taken into consideration) Engineering, or related field
7+ years of experience in field management on federal construction projects particularly at Naval Station Great Lakes, IL
Strong knowledge of federal contract requirements (FAR, DFARS) and quality assurance programs
Current OSHA 30 certification; EM 385-1-1 and USACE QA/QC certification preferred
Proven ability to manage field teams across multiple job sites and geographic locations
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Proficiency in construction scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) and project management software (Kahua, RMS, ECMS, etc.)
Work Environment & Travel:
Must report daily to Naval Station Great Lakes, IL
Field work conducted in various weather conditions and construction environments
Must be able to pass federal background checks and obtain security clearance if required
Must be located in greater Chicago Area or willing to relocate to area
Travel anticipated 5% of the time to DAWSON Construction East Offices for meetings
DAWSON will provide vehicle for use on Naval Station Great Lakes
