Permit Architects is a New York City-based firm specializing in helping homeowners navigate co-op, condo, and NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) permit approvals for small residential renovations. Our mission is to make the renovation process as simple and streamlined as possiblefor both our clients and our team. Please note, we are not a design firm. Our design services are limited to suggestions for code compliance.
We're seeking a senior-level architectural professional to join us on a freelance or part-time basis. This is a remote position with flexible hours, offering the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to NYC's built environment without the grind of a traditional full-time firm role.
Role Responsibilities
Project Management: Oversee 10+ small permit projects simultaneously, coordinating with staff and tracking deadlines.
Client Interaction: Serve as the point of contact for clients, guiding them through building management and DOB processes.
Code & Zoning Research: Provide clear, technically sound responses to code-related questions. Familiarity with NYC Building Code is a plus.
Team Coordination: Redline drawings and delegate tasks to drafters, junior architects, and administrative support staff.
Technical Review: Address objections from building review architects and DOB examiners.
Optional Site Visits: Conduct inspections if located in NYC.
Requirements
Degree in Architecture
10+ years of professional architecture experience (NYC experience a strong plus)
Strong knowledge of building/zoning codes and renovation permitting
Work Samples of DOB or permit-related drawing sets
Proven ability to manage multiple project schedules simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills
