Structural Mechanic I

Under moderate supervision and in a team-oriented environment, the Structural Assembler performs a variety of structural assembly operations, ensuring compliance with FAA standards, customer specifications, and Gulfstream quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and fit detail parts and structures; perform precision drilling and riveting operations.

  • Rivet structural assemblies and sheet metal parts using pneumatic tools (e.g., riveting guns, drills, reamers, countersinks).

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, lofts, and work orders to determine operation sequences and specifications.

  • Check all completed work to ensure defect-free assembly before inspection.

  • Maintain logs and production records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, PCOs); record labor in resource planning systems.

  • Align and fasten parts using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area; support 5S and safety programs.

  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., YIAW, Kaizen).

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum 1 year of structural assembly experience or
    Completion of the Savannah Tech Aircraft Structures Technical Certificate Program (qualifies for 1 year experience credit).

  • Experience with Solumina and Smarteam is preferred .

  • Basic understanding of aircraft structures, sheet metal, and fabrication processes.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, a 6 scale, and operation sheets.

  • Proficiency in basic shop math and computer skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, professional work ethic, and teamwork skills.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs .

  • Must be able to climb ladders, stands, stairs and work in tight or restricted spaces .

  • Must be able to work any shift , including overtime when required.

  • Comfortable working with composite resins and materials .

  • Adherence to safety standards and proper care of tools and equipment is essential.
