Job Description

What You Will Do:

Inspecting vehicles: Assessing damage and determining the extent of repairs needed.

Removing damaged parts: Including bumpers, fenders, hoods, and other restore the vehicle's surface.

Repairing dent and scratches: Using fillers, hammers, and other tools to restore the vehicle's surface.

Fitting and welding replacement parts: Using welding equipment to attach and repair damaged areas.

Smoothing repaired surfaces: Sanding and grinding to prepare the area for painting.

Painting and refinishing: Applying primer, base coats, and clear coats to achieve a desired finish.

Aligning frames and structures: Using equipment to restore the vehicle's structural integrity.

Installing glass and windshields: Replacing or repairing damaged windshields and other glass.

Perform preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment.

Perform minor repairs or other related mechanical work.

Maintain records of repairs & maintenance.

Qualifications

24 mos. exp. in automotive repair & maintenance of variety of vehicles &/or all types of equipment identified by agency; valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

-Or 12 months as ODOT Mechanic Trainee, 52151; valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above, except for mandated licensure. Note: The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per Section 3719.01 & 3719.41 of Ohio revised code. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in performing major repairs on damaged automobiles & truck bodies.

Supplemental Information

Valid Class A CDL without air brake restriction, with tanker endorsement must be obtained during probationary period & maintained thereafter.

The selection process for this position will include a structured interview. Candidate responses to the interview questions will be scored and the selection will be made in accordance with the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract.

This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.

All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment.

This position is also subject to federal testing regulations pursuant to 49 CFR Part 40 (Federal Drug and Alcohol Regulations) and 49 CFR Part 382 (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) which prohibits the use of marijuana, including medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test for final applicants in this position.
