Job Summary
The Rig Welder is responsible for performing welding tasks in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, and project specifications. This includes fit-up verification, equipment inspections, and ensuring weld quality through proper technique and standards. The ideal candidate will have fabrication experience, including FCAW procedures and welding on subsea and structural components.
Responsibilities and Duties
Verify welding process/procedure required for each project through the Shop Foreman and QA/QC Representative (to be noted on each Fabrication Traveler issued with drawings).
Verify or assist with verification of fit-up prior to weld-out as required.
Complete and inspect all weld passes.
Interpret drawings and welding symbols accurately.
Learn and follow the Weld Map and Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) requirements.
Select the correct welding wire and adjust welding machine accordingly.
Operate arc gouging equipment as needed.
Demonstrate proper use of hand tools, grinders, and welding equipment.
Assist welders and fitters in cleaning, moving, holding, clamping, and preparing workpieces.
Perform welding on carbon, alloy, and stainless steel plate, sheet, shapes, castings, or other fabricated steel components.
Produce welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using gas-shielded flux core wire welding procedures that meet acceptable strength and appearance standards.
Clean welds using grinders or brushes where necessary.

Inspect equipment (welding machine, leads, flux-core box, grinder, etc.) at the beginning of each shift.
Clean and stencil/stamp 3/8 from every weld upon completion. Welds must be marked every three (3) feet per standard requirements.
Qualifications
Preferably a minimum of 2 years of experience in fabrication.
Experience in FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) procedures.
Experience welding subsea equipment is highly desirable.
Solid understanding of structural fabrication techniques and requirements.
