The County Building Inspector facilitates the inspection and in-field requirements for residential, industrial, and commercial building activities in unincorporated Wagoner County. Additionally, the County Building Inspector completes the review and inspection of all utility provider right-of-way activities in unincorporated Wagoner County.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provides exceptional customer service to the public by answering all manner of building code, fire code, and safety code questions in-person, by phone, or by email

Email is to be checked daily

County phone calls are to be answered Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Ability to operate Microsoft outlook, Microsoft word, Microsoft excel, and Adobe Reader and to operate a computer effectively

Ability to utilize a tablet for inspection purposes

Ability to work well with the public and with local contractors

Ability to read and understand plans/blueprints; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Ability to drive a county vehicle 75% of the workday to accomplish in-field tasks

On-site inspections for all building and development in unincorporated Wagoner County

In-person delivery of official correspondence as required by the Wagoner County Code Enforcement Manual, the Code Enforcement Officer, the floodplain administrator, and organizational supervisor

Documentation of in-field conditions (example: pictures, video, audio recordings, emails, etc.) as required by the Wagoner County Engineer, Floodplain Administrator, Code Enforcement Officer, and organizational supervisor

Identify all code, rule, and regulation violations in the field and report to the Code Enforcement Officer for verification and action as required

Researching problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential building, building construction, and code compliance. Responds to complex and sensitive building issues

Assist in administering the permitting function, including application processing, development review, fee assessment and collections

Review of all utility provider permit requests ensuring adherence to permitting requirements

Inspection of all utility permit construction activities during construction

Approval of all utility provider activities following the completion of work

Records Management of all Utility Permit applications

Performs the duties of a building plan examiner, mechanical inspector, plumbing inspector, or electrical inspector

Other tasks as assigned by Director

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Competence in reading, understanding, communicating, inspecting, and enforcing all international building code and residential building code requirements (ICC Building Code, IRC one and two family dwelling code, NEC) and all local codes to include code enforcement, subdivision, zoning, and flood hazard prevention

Ability to communicate in-person, by phone, or by email to Wagoner County citizens with understanding, clarity, and confidence

Ability to utilize electronic files for inspection purposes on a computer, smart phone, or tablet

Administrative Skills, Verbal and Written Communication, Strong Organizational and File Maintenance Skills, Ability to Multi-task and Organize, Must Demonstrate Professionalism, Leadership and Teamwork

Ability to adhere to County purchasing law regarding the maintenance of the county provided vehicle, fuel purchasing, and other county equipment

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 10 years working in the building and development industry

Licensed in General Contracting, Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC trades preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A valid driver's license

International Code Council residential and commercial building inspector certification and State of Oklahoma unlimited building inspectors license or both must be obtained within twenty four (24) months from date of employment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed both in office settings and outdoors. The outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use development and construction sites.

While performing duties on the job the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands, to operate tools, controls, and computers. The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.

The employee must occasionally lift 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee routinely works in outside weather conditions.
