Laborer/Assistant Plant Operator

Smith Sand & Gravel, Inc., a locally owned and operated aggregate plant since 1951 is seeking laborers/assistant plant operators.

Job Summary:
Operate gravel plant efficiently while maintaining material integrity.
Understanding of a sand and gravel operation crushing, screening and washing product in addition to product gradation and uniformity.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate heavy equipment, including loader, skid steer, bulldozer, excavator, haul truck, crusher and screener.
Maintain quality control utilizing standard operating procedures.
Perform routine maintenance of plant and equipment.
Properly complete plant cleanout daily.
Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of plant and equipment, promptly reporting safety or maintenance issues.
Comply with MSHA policies and procedures.
Comply with NYS DEC regulations including mined land reclamation.

Requirements & Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old per federal law (FLSA).
Knowledge of aggregate materials.
Understanding of the effect various components have on Sieve analysis and Fineness modulus.
Previous mining aggregate experience.
Valid drivers license with clean driving record. Class B with air brake endorsement, preferred.
Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects.
Willingness to work overtime and adapt to changing schedules. (Our business is seasonal and weather dependent.)
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Common sense is a must.

Details:
Shift: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 5:00pm
Layoffs: Rotating due to seasonal restrictions and weather dependent.
Pay: Based on experience
