As part of the Gas Power One Field Services team, FieldCore installs, maintains and upgrades power generation equipment, enabling operators of the worlds energy infrastructure to provide more reliable and affordable energy.
Job Summary : Apprentice Welder will learn the basics in joining of steel plate and pipe products whilst also being mentored in the use of mechanical tools for cutting, profiling, and shaping components. Apprentice Welder will be coached to undertake basic welding operations including the preparation and execution stipulated within the welding procedure specification (WPS) within a manner that ensures safety standards are always maintained. You may also, at times be assigned to other duties to proactively drive our GEV OFS vision and to align with our organisations core values. Eventual Duties & Responsibilities:- Joining of steel materials safely using common fusion welding processes i.e., TIG (GTAW), MMA (SMAW) & MIG/MAG (GMAW).
- Ability to be able to select the proper/most efficient tool for the task in hand.
- Work closely with colleagues to understand mechanical drawings.
- Learn to safely use mechanical tools (grinders) to shape, contour, and dress weld metal.
- Learn to work with colleagues to review welding related quality documentation.
- Learn to work with colleagues to safely operate propane gas heating torches for the purpose of preheat or material removal.
- Requirement to travel as and when required, domestically & internationally.
- Ability and willingness to work extended shifts, weekends, and holidays as and when required.
- Ability and willingness to work in areas where access is often restricted due to plant configuration, making welding related tasks sometimes challenging.
- Year 1 to be fulfilled at CATCH training facility (full time).
- Training consisting of classroom and workshop syllabus working towards the completion of Pipe Welder apprenticeship working towards End Point Assessment (EPA) Recommended provider Cogent SIAS.
- Experience of power generation (HRSG/Gas/Steam turbines) and associated equipment.
- Learn safe systems of work for task related equipment.
- Progressive communication and interpersonal soft skills.
- Work to eventually work independently and on multiple tasks when required, often under time constraints.
- Progressive organisational skills.
- English language proficiency.
