Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking Maintenance Schedulers to work in the Bay Minette facility. The responsibility of the Maintenance Scheduler requires the planning and scheduling of maintenance jobs for electricians and mechanics, as well as contractors. The Scheduler also works directly with Maintenance Leaders, Reliability Planners, and Schedulers in other areas to plan and develop schedules for maintenance and expense project work. In addition, the Scheduler provides materials, drawings, work orders, work schedules, instructions, and maintenance manuals as required.

A primary responsibility of this position is administering and coordinating the maintenance workflow. This will be accomplished through the use of improved preventive and predictive maintenance techniques and improved maintenance work plans. The Scheduler must work closely with all plant maintenance personnel to ensure maintenance activities are completed as planned and the equipment operates in a reliable manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Own all maintenance work in schedulers' backlog and continuously work towards improving work management metrics
  • Work with department resources to ensure rebuild work orders have clear direction on what repair is needed and are scheduled for repair (internal and external)
  • Acquire initial work order labor estimates
  • Reconcile all work orders from uptime and downtime, working with appropriate crew leaders and associate leaders from maintenance
  • Assist crew leaders and associate leaders in finding the right maintenance work to fill production holes.
  • Develop and maintain uptime, down day, and major/minor shutdown maintenance schedules (load leveled to available resources)
  • Report metrics as requested.
  • Develop a working understanding of the equipment within the department to facilitate the scheduling process.
  • Develop and coordinate Gantt chart schedules for semi-annual and annual outages.
  • Determine workforce availability and identify resource gaps for accomplishing required work
  • Process notifications into work orders (using minimal scheduling steps)
  • Conduct schedule review meeting with operations, engineers and maintenance coordinators / crew leaders
  • Set and maintain accurate status and coding of work orders
  • Develop rough schedule at least 2 weeks in advance with required labor hours identified
  • Conduct backlog review and prioritization meetings with Engineers, Coordinators, Operations
  • Coordinate shared resource needs with other manufacturing maintenance departments and central maintenance to support plant priorities and needs
  • Communicate maintenance schedules (draft and final) with operations, maintenance leaders (incl. associates), and engineers as required
  • Develop and publish final maintenance schedules and print work orders (min. 1 weekday in advance for down day)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma/GED or 5 yrs industrial experience required
  • Ability to work with operations, maintenance, engineering, other departments, and leadership (all levels of the organization)
  • Department specific experience in maintenance, engineering, or operations (5 or more years preferred).
  • Demonstrated passion for getting the right maintenance work done at the right time.
  • Ability to learn SAP specific transaction requirements
  • Ability to follow standard procedures on scheduling process
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all subject areas in the department
  • Communication and organization skills
  • Experience with excel
  • Public speaking skills for holding meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 Year Degree in a related field
  • SAP experience
  • General mechanical/electrical experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Near constant standing with frequent walking and occasional sitting
  • Occasional below waist level work, climbing, balancing, carrying, reaching over 15 away from the body, reaching above shoulder, fine motor skills, use of forceful motion, push/pull and lifting up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Able and willing to work at heights

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing.
