This posting will be used to fill full-time positions in the Department of Public Works, Highways Division. This is skilled work in the production of traffic signs and markers.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Duties involve the operation of a variety of hand tools, Plotters, Squeeze roll table, Drill Press, Sheer, Hydraulic Punch, Computers, Printers, Laminating machines and specialized equipment to produce traffic signs and markers. Work includes layout of sign messages in accordance with the MUTCD and established standards. Assignments are received via an asset management program with instructions pertaining to sign code types and processes to be followed. Work is inspected by a superior for quality and conformance to established standards and specifications.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. They are not intended to include all of the essential job functions of all positions in the class).
POSITIONS IN THIS CLASS OF WORK ARE REQUIRED TO LIFT, OR CAUSE TO BE LIFTED, TOOLS, MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT WEIGHING UP TO 75 POUNDS.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience : One ( 1 ) or more years experience in the layout and production of signs by silk screening and over-laying techniques.
Additional Requirements: A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
Note: The one ( 1 ) or more years of experience in the layout and production of signs by silk screening and over-laying techniques maybe substituted for one ( 1 ) or more years of experience in the layout and production of signs utilizing printers and over-laying techniques.
Note: Longevity pay is available based on years of service.Preference will be given to qualifying c andidates who possess the following:

- Design of specialized signs utilizing a software program such as Flexi (Street Name Signs, Directional Signs, etc.)
- Preparation and printing of signs utilizing latex and solvent printers.
- Management of Inventory utilizing an asset management program.
- Fabrication of Signs utilizing a Squeeze Roll Table. Perform maintenance of equipment.
- Receiving and storing of sign fabrication material and completed signs.
- Operates a forklift.
- Performs related work as required.

- Considerable knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in the production of signs utilizing computers, printers and overlaying techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of the material, equipment, and tools required in the fabrication and production of signs and markers.
- Ability to interpret and work from sketches, rough layouts, standard drawings, and specifications; ability to instruct others in the use of layouts, standard drawings, and specifications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superior and other employees.
- Skills in the use of the hand tools and specialized equipment used in the production of signs by overlaying techniques.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
