What You Can Expect Working in the Operations Project Estimator Position

As an Operations Project Estimator, you will coordinate field-based service projects by gathering measurements from technicians, reviewing scope and budget details with the sales team, and ensuring accurate documentation is provided to engineering and operations. You’ll work closely with internal teams to confirm project readiness—verifying clear specifications, detailed drawings, and complete quote packages.

This role involves regular collaboration with the fabrication, engineering, production, and transportation departments to ensure timely execution and alignment of resources. It supports revenue growth by managing post-sale service projects that extend customer engagement beyond the initial sale. The position plays a key role in streamlining service delivery, optimizing project timelines, and preventing scope or schedule-related issues.

This is a non-supervisory position requiring cross-functional coordination with internal departments—including Service, Engineering, Fabrication, Drafting, and Sales—as well as external vendors such as door manufacturers, equipment suppliers, and gas detection service providers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed estimates, quotes, budgets, and schedules for service projects by reviewing floor plans, customer input, and project proposals.
  • Analyze customer purchase orders, proposals, and technical documents to ensure alignment of project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal teams and external vendors/customers to communicate project requirements, resolve issues, and ensure service expectations are met.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with engineering, fabrication, drafting, transportation, and production teams to ensure smooth service execution.
  • Collect technical data and field measurements from service technicians to support accurate documentation and engineering deliverables.
  • Review project designs, specifications, and drawings for accuracy, required modifications, and alignment with service needs.
  • Monitor and report project progress, providing interim and final updates to management and stakeholders, while proactively addressing issues to avoid delays and manage costs.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to evaluate project scope, support field technicians, prepare quotes, and drive post-sale service revenue.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and two years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Reading and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications, and proposals
  • High level of analytical/critical thinking
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills across departments and with Leadership.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain the following: Passport and TWIC Card.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, construction or program management.
  • Knowledge of Inventory, order processing software such as Sage.
  • Knowledge of estimating software.
