**Job Location: Richmond, VA**

**Job Responsibilities**

Platform Architecture & Design:

Design and architect a Confluent Kafka platform, considering high availability, fault tolerance, and performance requirements.

Develop detailed architectural diagrams and documentation for the Kafka infrastructure and related components.

Define best practices and standards for Kafka topic creation, partitioning, and configuration.

Implementation & Setup:

Lead the installation, configuration, and deployment of Confluent Kafka clusters, including brokers, ZooKeeper, Schema Registry, and Connect.

Automate Kafka cluster operations using infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

Implement security measures to protect Kafka clusters and data streams (e.g., authentication, authorization, encryption).

Data Modeling & JSON Handling:

Design and implement efficient data serialization and deserialization strategies, including JSON.

Develop and maintain schemas for data exchanged within the Kafka platform.

Ensure data quality and consistency across different systems and applications using schema validation and governance practices.

Performance & Monitoring:

Monitor Kafka cluster performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Kafka performance, reliability, and scalability.

Develop and maintain dashboards and alerts for proactive monitoring of the Kafka platform.

Collaboration & Documentation:

Collaborate with data engineers, application developers, and operations teams to integrate Kafka solutions with business needs.

Provide technical guidance and support to teams using the Kafka platform.

Create comprehensive documentation for the Kafka architecture, configuration, and best practices.

**Required Skills**

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

5+ years of experience architecting, designing, and implementing data streaming platforms using Confluent Kafka.

Deep understanding of Kafka architecture, including brokers, topics, partitions, replication, and ZooKeeper.

Hands-on experience with setting up and managing Confluent Kafka clusters in production environments.

Strong experience with JSON data handling, schema design, and data serialization/deserialization in Kafka.

Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Scala, Python).

Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
