Job Summa ry :The Gun Drill Operator is responsible for operating gun drilling machines to precisely bore deep, straight holes in metal workpieces according to engineering specifications. The operator ensures high accuracy and surface finish, performing setup, operation, and maintenance of gun drilling equipment. Key Responsibilities :

• Set up and operate gun drilling machines (manual or CNC-controlled) according to blueprints, engineering drawings, or verbal instructions.
• Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal performance.
• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and hole depths.
• Measure and inspect finished workpieces using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other precision instruments.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines and tools.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Troubleshoot issues related to drill bit wear, alignment, chip removal, and coolant flow.
• Document production data, including job logs, quality reports, and inspection records.
• Collaborate with engineers and quality control personnel to resolve technical issues.

Qualifications :

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
• 2+ years of experience operating gun drilling machines or equivalent deep hole boring equipment.
• Strong understanding of blueprint reading, geometric tolerancing, and machining principles.
• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
• Knowledge of coolant systems and chip evacuation techniques.
• Familiarity with CNC programming is a plus but not always required.

Working Conditions :

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oil, and metal shavings.
• May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
• Regular lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.
