Facilities at Madison College is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to join our Facilities team to provide services to all buildings throughout the entire district. This is semi-skilled and skilled work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and a variety of standardized HVAC, Temperature Controls, Electrical, and Plumbing equipment.
The Maintenance Mechanic position will require the use of initiative and judgment in determining the nature of repairs needed. The primary emphasis is on mechanical knowledge and skill. Skill is required in all types of trades and may be less than that which would be required of a journeyman in one specific field.
This is a second shift position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm, and includes second shift differential pay .

Accountabilities:
- Troubleshoot, repair and adjust air handling units, exhaust fans and other similar equipment.
- Adjust and repair hot water, electric, and low pressure steam packaged boilers.
- Troubleshoot and repair waterside circuits and controls for chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers and associated piping. Monitor air conditioning water chiller operating temperatures and pressures. Clean chiller tubes and cooling towers.
- Monitor, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul control, shop process and medical air compressors; water pumps; vacuum pumps and related equipment.
- Clean, repair, and replace components of domestic water plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Monitor and adjust direct digital temperature control systems such as Alerton Controls.
- Test and/or chemically treat domestic water supply systems and HVAC water systems.
- Test and inspect a variety of safety and emergency equipment and systems related to power generation, first aid and fire protection.
- Inspect, install, repair and replace units or components of a wide variety of non-HVAC equipment, appliances and fixtures commonly used in shop, kitchen, laboratory and office environments.
- Repair and replace various electrical system components of interior and exterior lighting, motors, clocks, fire alarms, gates, door systems, building line power feeder circuits and branch circuits.
- Welding, brazing, and soldering of various piping materials.
- Monitor and adjust lighting control systems such as Lutron.
- Construct fabrications of metal, plastic and wood as needed to repair or modify building fixtures, furniture and equipment.
- Perform administrative duties such as record keeping, use of electronic mail and personal computer operations related to the use of software for Facility Services automated work order inventory and requisition systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
- Knowledge of basic math, algebra, chemistry, electricity, and fluid power theory.
- Skill in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical and fluid power control systems.
- Skill in plumbing and piping techniques including basic gas arc, P.V.C. and wire welding, brazing, cutting and soldering techniques.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blue prints, schematics and shop drawings.
- Skill in direct digital temperature control systems.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent working experience. * Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
