SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. As an Electrical Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing coordination, planning, and supervision to assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a particular area of discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate work projects within the electrical scope of the building site
- Ensure high-quality installation of electrical portions of the project, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction
- Provide drawing, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship
- Partner with the Sr. Superintendent in formwork selection, equipment sizing, site utilization plan, and development of project schedules and updates, including three-week look-ahead
- Ensure work teams have needed resources and support, and supervise quality control of work team, including self-performed and subcontracted work
- Manage the interface with personnel concerned with the connection of the project power grid to the existing distribution system
- Supervise the installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables
- Attend and participate in project meetings, providing liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components comply with drawings and specifications
- Ensure correct implementation of the Mortenson Project Quality Plan (PQP) and assist in development and updating of project control logs and QC documentation; assist with development of electrical Integrated Work Instructions (IWIs)
- Oversee electrical subcontractors, reviewing/monitoring their procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look-ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activities
- Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timely
- Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work on every project
- Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, ensuring crews have resources and support
- Ensure implementation, practice, and enforcement of the Mortenson Zero Injury Program
- Produce various reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions for equipment use and energization of circuits, and written Methods of Operation (MOPs)
- Establish and nurture a teamwork environment, providing work direction and performance evaluations
- Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed
- Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunities
- Manage open shop and union issues
- Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site, including customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.
- Manage site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvement
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 12 years experience working with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of transmission/collection lines, and substation construction.
- Minimum 15 years supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methods
- Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methods
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
- Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
- Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
- Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cables
- Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing
- Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioning
- Current drivers license
- Ability to travel

The base pay range for this role is $142,800 MIN - $214,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR 10%, Washington, D.C. 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individuals knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortensons incentive plan.
