Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Maintenance Mechanic 2 to perform skilled work in replacing or installing all types of plumbing fixtures such as water closets, sinks, drinking fountains, showers, kitchen laboratory equipment, sewer laterals and all types of domestic/potable water equipment systems in CBC buildings and facilities. Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution; electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats and valves; adjust, repair or replace various College equipment and fixtures; cut, fit, fabricate and assemble a wide variety of articles, materials, and devices;
Construct, remodel, repair, or alter buildings, sheds, scaffolds, partitions, concrete forms and other structures from plans, sketches, or instructions; may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications; surveying; operate a variety of power tools and equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, and boring and mortising machines; sharpen and set saws and other tools; estimate amount of materials, preliminary costs and time needed for installation and repairs; repair windows, sashes, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, furniture fixtures, stairs, painted surfaces, cupboards and roofs; build and install cabinets, furniture, and other fixtures; use standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of carpentry trade; standard lumber types and grades; utilize proper safety precautions; build and install cabinets, furniture, and other fixtures; adjust, repair or replace locks, weather stripping, screens, mirrors, blinds, brackets, draperies, linoleum, tile, gutters and downspouts;
Perform installation, preventative maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment, piping, tanks and pressure vessels, and all forms of air-conditioning & refrigeration equipment; inspect, diagnose malfunctions; repair, maintain, and test plumbing, heating, cooling, and other process piping systems; clear plugged waste lines; remove and replace or install all types of plumbing fixtures; construct, lay out or plan piping assemblies in accordance with pipe fitting practice; construct various types of pipe joints for high or low pressure systems; inspect water mains, fixtures, sewer lines, and valves;
Prepare, prime, sand, seal, patch and paint furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials; operate, clean and maintain all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers and electrostatic sprayers, pumps, etc.;
Drive service trucks as required; load and unload materials, tools and supplies; read and interpret plans, blueprints and sketches; may perform minor maintenance on automobile and equipment such as oil changes, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, fan belts and charge batteries; may instruct helpers or other maintenance workers as required; will perform work in other trades; may assist, coordinate and/or work with other trades and crafts journey personnel; perform snow removal as instructed during inclement weather events; and
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Two (2) years maintenance experience;
Able to obtain and maintain forklift and aerial lift certification;
Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to obtain one; and
Proficiency in basic computer tasks and ability to operate common computer programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of recognized apprenticeship program as a journeyman plumber or four (4) years applicable work experience.

This position is a full-time classified staff position. This position is overtime eligible and the typical work hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however, working hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work as required. This position is available immediately.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, 80 pounds with help from others or by mechanical means, and climb a ladder and work from heights no more than 80 feet off the ground. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment and grounds/maintenance equipment.
Working Conditions
Work environment is performed in multiple locations such as a typical office environment, field and indoor/outdoor settings that includes some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following safety and driving requirements. Interruptions occur on a regular basis. There can be exposure to adverse weather conditions and unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and/or uneven surfaces, while performing the duties of this position.
