Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical or Marine Engineer to support multiple U.S. Navy and Military Sealift Command(MSC) programs. In this role, you will contribute to the design, validation, and optimization of systems on a range of naval and marine vessels, including aircraft carriers, combatants, amphibious ships, auxiliary vessels, and specialized mission ships. You will work on critical systems such as propulsion, internal communications, compressed air, lubricating and fuel oils, hydraulics, cooling and heating water, and HVACall essential to maintaining the functionality and mission of these vessels across their entire lifecycle, from concept design and construction through to fleet support.

This position offers flexible work options, including either a location in Norfolk, VA or a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities:
System Design & Documentation: Design and review marine auxiliary and piping systems, analyze preliminary and functional design documentation, and create system specifications for naval and commercial vessels.
Technical Analysis & Support: Review and analyze mechanical, electrical propulsion, and auxiliary/piping systems.

Develop technical data packages to support vessel design, construction, and maintenance.
Engineering Services: Provide comprehensive support in areas such as specification writing, system design, system modeling, mechanical calculations, outfitting design, marine drawings, record drawing updates, ship checks, and technical document preparation, all aligned with drawing standards and marine design best practices.
Test Procedures & Evaluation: Write test procedures, compile and evaluate design and test data, and prepare technical specifications to ensure systems meet required performance and safety standards.
Research and Development: Plan, design, develop, modify, and evaluate auxiliary systems, mechanical and electro-mechanical components, controls, engines, machines, and thermal hydraulic systems for naval vessels.

Qualifications:

Required:

BS in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of professional engineering experience supporting U.S Navy/Military Sealift Command programs.
Experience with US Navy and/or US commercial ship design standards.
Experience with Military Sealift Command (MSC) marine engineering practices.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD soft ware, with the ability to draft detailed multi -view drawings of systems, machinery spaces, assemblies, and products.
Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and collaborating to achieve engineering objectives while learning from others.
Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science, and mechanics of materials.
Ability to apply engineering principles to analyze and solve mechanical problems, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare technical reports, collaborate with team members, and present engineering solutions clearly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Power Point
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance

Desired:

Shipboard and/or shipyard experience
Experience with industry-standard engineering design and modeling soft ware, including AutoCAD, PIPE-FLO, ShipConstructor, NAVISWORKS, or similar tools for system design and analysis.
