GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for assisting with a wide variety of District maintenance responsibilities. Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform general maintenance activities as assigned.
- Occasionally operate heavy equipment (front end loader, 10-wheeler, fork lift, snow plow, etc.).
- Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment for Maintenance and other Departments.
- Ensure necessary tools are available for jobs needing to be completed.
- Complete work requests and submit to District Maintenance Shop, when required.
- Assist with any moving of furniture and/or equipment, which can range from assisting a teacher who is moving from one school to another, moving and storing surplus furniture, to cleaning out an entire school.
- Substitute as a custodian in the elementary schools when needed and performs related duties as assigned.
- Assist in maintaining grounds (trims shrubs, lays sod, repairs sprinklers, etc.).
- Haul trash.
- Operate light duty truck, heavy duty dump truck, scissor lift, backhoe, Kubota tractor, skid steer, forklift, asphalt roller, dirt packer, and salter and snowplow during winter months.
- Assist with snow and ice removal.
Plumber
- Install, repair and maintain sprinkling systems.
- Repair plumbing-related fixtures and systems (faucets, mixing valves, bearings and couplings on pumps, toilets, etc.).
- Install bathroom fixtures and related piping systems.
- Install washers, dryers, water heaters and other appliances.
- Maintain and repair heating systems (replace steam heaters, repair insulation on boilers and lines, replace pressure valves, etc.).
- Check for gas leaks and install gas lines, valves and regulators.
- Maintain boilers and condensate systems (replace condensate pumps and motors, etc.).
- Connect and install pumps and motors.
- Unplug sewers with roto-rooter, unclog toilets, drinking fountains, etc.
- Replace pressure relief valves.
- Coordinate with school administrative and custodial personnel in scheduling repairs and replacements.
- Repair steam leaks.
- Clean hot water heaters and coils in heat exchangers.
- Assist the district electrician as required.
- Prepare boilers for yearly inspection.
- Repair insulation on boilers and lines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Desirable to have State Journeyman Plumbing Certificate, Class A Journeyman Electrician Certificate, Journeyman Carpenter Certificate, Journeyman HVACR Certificate, EPA Certification, N.A.T.E. Certification, Level 1 Alarm Certification and AV Installation Certification
- Requires Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License
- Requires Chauffeur's License and may require Class E Chauffeur's License
- Valid Utah Class B CDL Driver’s License
- Possession of U.S. Environmental Protection Administration “Universal” certification for handling and disposal of refrigerant – nice to have but not required
- Knowledge and skill in driving truck and forklift
- Knowledge and skill in locksmithing and in equipment operation
- Knowledge and skill in vehicle and small equipment maintenance and repair
- Knowledge and skill in mixing and matching painting, painting, varnishing and related abilities, such as sheetrock taping
- Knowledge and skill in carpentry, construction work, and heavy equipment operation
- Knowledge of local building codes and national electrical codes
- Knowledge and specialized skill in repair of a wide variety of electronic and electrical equipment
- Knowledge of refrigeration theory and computation of heating and cooling loads and capacities
- Skill in thermostat calibration and chemical analysis
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, charts, and technical instructions
- Ability to use hand tools and testing and measuring devices such as set- and dry-bulb thermometers, manometers, anemometers, velometers, draft gauges, soldering irons, hand torches, leak detectors, multimeters, etc.
- Ability to understand and utilize skills in situations involving electrical, heating, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry systems
- Ability to accurately maintain equipment inventory and history records
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and to present facts clearly, both orally and in writing
- Ability to properly use hand tools and power equipment used in the trade
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
- Ability to work in confined spaces and to work from ladders or elevated platforms
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The job occasionally requires above average strength and/or stamina. Job duties may involve lifting and carrying of heavy materials/objects (50-100 pounds).
- Work is occasionally carried out in disagreeable conditions. Exposure to adverse working conditions, inclement weather, dirt/dust, noise or fumes, and/or exposure to possible accidents, health hazards or minor injuries produce an environment that involves adjusting to or accommodating these uncomfortable conditions.
