Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Corporate Safety Manager, located at the Corporate Office, 122 Uptown Drive, Suite 300, Bay City, MI 48708. Frequent travel to all Company sites is required.
JOB SUMMARY
The Corporate Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs that ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all company locations. Frequent day travel to all Company sites is required. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on field work and training, promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. The following indicates the primary responsibilities of the position, but this position may need to undertake any other duties or responsibilities as directed by the Director of Safety and Security.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Program Development & Management
Assist the Director of Safety and Security with the design, implementation, and maintenance of corporate-wide health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular reviews and audits of safety systems, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Analyze safety performance metrics and prepare reports for executive leadership.
Training & Development
Develop and assist in the delivery of comprehensive safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and managers.
Coordinate and lead safety onboarding for new hires, ensuring understanding of all relevant policies.
Maintain accurate records of all training sessions and certifications.
Field Work & Site Support
Conduct regular field visits to job sites and facilities to perform inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
Serve as the primary safety contact in the absence of a Site Safety Supervisor, during field operations, ensuring proper PPE usage, equipment safety, and adherence to safety protocols.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; document findings and implement preventive measures.
Compliance & Reporting
Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Maintain all required documentation for safety incidents, inspections, training, and corrective actions.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (required).
5+ years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or industrial settings.
Professional certification (e.g., CSP, CHST, or OSHA 30/500) preferred.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices.
Strong communication and training facilitation skills.
Willingness to travel to various job sites and facilities
