40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled wastewater treatment process tasks and to maintain compliance with State discharge regulations. Employees in this classification operate various pumps, valves, presses, conveyors, and other equipment, clean tanks and the plant grounds, collect plant operational data, collect wastewater and sludge samples for analysis, write in daily logs, and communicate with manager about any changes that is made to plant operations. Position ensures compliance with established safety and accident prevention standards. Performs related work as directed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversee the entire operations of the Wastewater Plant
Write in daily log and communicate with the Lead Operator about any changes that is made to plant operations.
Collect plant data.
Operate North and South Belt Presses
Clean head works, tanks, clarifiers digesters, and the plant grounds
Collect BOD/TSS, Fecal, MLSS, and Sludge Cake samples.
Move sludge trailers from under conveyor into the yard to be hauled to the landfill.
Input data into HachWims database
Controls the operation of treatment, pumping, and reclamation facilities to achieve proper processing of wastewater and recycled water within mandated operation requirements.
Inspects plant operational equipment and facilities on a regularly-scheduled basis; reads and records readings of pumps, chemical feed and other treatment and pumping equipment.
Monitors plant SCADA system to identify needed adjustments for proper operating
conditions.
Maintains accurate, neat, current and complete logs and records.
Collects wastewater, sludge and other samples from various phases of the wastewater treatment process;
Performs basic wastewater laboratory chemical and physical tests on samples to ensure that the wastewater treatment plant is operating effectively and that regulatory requirements are being met;
Operates and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of treatment plant equipment, such as pumps, filtration systems, ultra violet disinfection, chemical valves, sludge lagoon, bar screens, chlorination equipment, etc.
Operates valves, pumps and automated controls to regulate the flow of wastewater through the system; operates valves to dispose of wastewater effluent.
Removes screenings and grit; cleans clarifiers and primary, secondary and other wastewater equipment and facilities.
Performs basic adjustments and troubleshooting for electrical motors and controls. A level of electrical maintenance and repair work may be.
Maintains accurate records of gauge, chart, graph and meter readings, chemical test results, and work performed.
Observes appropriate safety procedures, including those related to the safe handling of sodium hypochlorite and other treatment chemicals.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instructs, oversees and reviews the work of less experienced staff.
Reviews and analyzes operational information and test results and revises equipment settings as appropriate; notifies supervisor of unusual situations and makes inspections or corrects system problems as instructed.
Maintains facilities, grounds, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition to include painting, landscaping, and housekeeping.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools and testing equipment.
Changes recording charts; ensures that chemical feed systems are providing a constant supply of sodium hypochlorite, sodium bisulfite, ferrous chloride, polymer and other treatment chemicals.
Operates, maintains, and assists in the repair of plant pump stations.
May investigate and resolve customer complaints regarding wastewater treatment related matters.
May have to operate heavy equipment such as forklift, backhoe, boom truck, tractors, dump trucks, etc., depending on City needs.
Performs duties as assigned.
Prioritize and organize assigned tasks in a cost and time effective manner.
Provide training, guidance, and technical support to unskilled and semi-skilled personnel as needed.
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Able to work 10-hour shifts.
Requires high school or vocational school diploma or equivalency certificate plus possession of or be eligible to obtain a Louisiana Department of Health Wastewater Treatment certification within one year of employment. Must possess a current, valid Louisiana drivers license.
NOTE: Preference may be extended to those possessing the above certification. Additionally, other successful work experience may be extended if preferences are deemed necessary to perform this work at a proficient level.
