As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the end-to-end mechanical design and development of our packaging machinery. You'll translate product requirements into robust CAD models and detailed drawings, drive innovation/prototyping and testing, and partner with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales to bring machines from concept to production, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and cost targets.
Roles & Responsibilities
Concept & Detail Design: Create and revise 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for new machines and upgrade kits using SolidWorks.
Prototype Development & Testing: Oversee build of prototypes, plan and execute mechanical tests (structural, fatigue, performance)
Analysis & Validation: Perform FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and kinematic simulations to validate designs and identify failure modes
Design for Manufacturability: Collaborate with Purchasing and Manufacturing to select materials, define processes, and optimize components for cost and ease of assembly Documentation & BOM Management: Generate and maintain Bills of Materials, part specifications, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals
Cross-Functional Support: Provide mechanical expertise to Service teams for field troubleshooting; advise Sales on configuration options and mechanical feasibility
Continuous Improvement: Establish and refine mechanical design standards, library of common components, and best-practice guidelines
Mentorship: Coach junior engineers and interns on CAD practices, analysis methods, and design review processes
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
7+ years' experience in machinery or equipment design, preferably in packaging or industrial automation
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks
Hands-on experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) and interpreting results Strong grasp of GD&T, material properties, and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, injection molding)
Proven track record bringing products from concept through production launch
Excellent problem-solving skills, with ability to tackle ambiguous challenges and drive decisions Clear verbal and written communication; able to present technical information to varied audiences Core Competencies
