The City of McMinnville is in search of a new Wastewater Plant Mechanic. This position is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on McMinnvilles Class IV Water Reclamation Facility and associated pump stations.

This recruitment will remain open until filled, with a first review of applications on July 3rd. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Maintenance.
  1. Conduct sensory inspection for changes or issues presented by what can be noticed visually or by smells, noises, vibrations, etc.
  2. Adjust equipment and process controls as required for maximum performance and results.
  3. Perform equipment lubrication, oil changes, pump and motor alignment, equipment rotation, and minor vehicle maintenance.
  4. Perform vibration analysis, bearing analysis, and electrical measurements.
  5. Perform corrective maintenance, including rebuilding equipment, instrumentation, troubleshooting, minor HVAC repair, and pump, compressor, and motor repair,
  6. Order and maintain an inventory of parts and supplies.
  7. Performs building maintenance and general housekeeping.
  8. Use SCADA system. Operate equipment, troubleshoot, analyze equipment operation, and adjust process controls.
  9. Oversee overall plant and lift station operations.

Compliance
  1. Prepare written reports and maintain records using computerized maintenance management system.
  2. Coordinate work with outside vendors to perform equipment inspections required by OHSA.
  3. Coordinate mechanic duties and responsibilities with the work performed by contractors and vendors.
  4. Develop and maintain hazard analysis for assigned tasks.
  5. Perform work in accordance with federal, state and city employment and safety laws, rules and standards.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
  • Participate in committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. A typical way to qualify would be high school and at least 2 years of related experience.

Must live within 30 minutes of treatment facility for required on-call work (6 months after hire).

This position also requires:

Knowledge of:
  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting, repairs, alignment, instrumentation, and rebuild methods for various types of equipment, including pumps, compressors, motors, HVAC, and vehicles.
  • Computerized record keeping systems, scheduling systems, word-processing and email.
  • Routine preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance methods.
  • Current employment and safety laws.
  • Processes, principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in advanced wastewater treatment facilities.

Skill and Ability to:
  • Use mechanical tools and instruments.
  • Read and understand blueprints and drawings.
  • Use computers for report writing, generating spreadsheets, and using databases.
  • Follow procedures for ordering and restocking parts and supplies.
  • Work in confined spaces safely and follow all safety rules.
  • Exemplify traits that reflect the Citys culture, including integrity, customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility, and a willingness to change.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

This position is designated as an essential employee role, requiring the individual to be available and responsive during regular working hours as well as in the event of unexpected situations, emergencies, or critical operational needs. This may include working outside of regular hours, including weekends or holidays, based on business needs.

The position requires regular (60-80%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment. The position requires moderate (40-60%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require high degree of speed, agility, hand eye coordination and equipment operation. The work environment has substantial hazards or obstacles (60-80%). There may be a substantial personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are uncomfortable, with substantial (60-80%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Driving may be a major responsibility of this position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED :

Works under the general direction of Wastewater Services Operations Supervisor.
