Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of Jersey, is seeking a Facilities Supervisor for the Operations department of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Facilities Supervisor oversees campus administrative and operational management of facilities to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs day-to-day operations and functions related to maintenance and use of space on the Piscataway campus. Supervises the Equipment Services Program, providing instrument repair, contract management and facilities services.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Advises the Director of all facility operations. Plans, budgets and schedules all facility-related construction, renovation, modification, preventive maintenance and operations and revises them as needed.

Works on long range plans, conceptual designs and capital budget requests for all facility-related projects. Analyzes facilities operational requirements (including mechanical, architectural and support systems) and makes short-term and long-term recommendations regarding space allocation, layout, communications services and assignment. Coordinates activities of support services departments related to office/lab relocations and renovations including, but not limited to, Physical Plant, Environmental Services, IT (data and telephone), University Facilities and Capital Planning and locksmith. Inspects construction, renovation and installation progress to ensure compliance with established specifications.

Inspects and evaluates use of on-campus and off-campus facilities. Conducts audits to support facility and campus site planning. Liaison with Rutgers Employee Health Services (REHS) and the university Fire Inspector to ensure that all medical school buildings provide a safe education and work environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Oversees the operation of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Machine and Instrument Repair Shops. Manages the financial accounts assigned in support of shop and equipment expenditures. Initiates all purchase requests, staffing requisitions and vendor payments. Prepares annual budget for Equipment Services program and submits monthly activity reports.

Supervises and implements programs and systems for the maintenance and operation of shared laboratory equipment. Responsibilities include recommendations for new and replacement equipment and the administration of repair orders, service contracts and maintenance records. Assists the Purchasing Department and represents RWJMS in negotiations with vendors for supplies, equipment and services related to the operations and functions of the Shared Equipment Services program.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree with at least three (3) years of related facilities experience.

Two (2) years of prior supervisory experience required.

Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical experience can include responsibility in a scientific environment including medical or research instrumentation.

Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with machine or model shop equipment.

Management experience includes working with purchasing systems, inventory control and equipment maintenance administration.

Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
